The biocompatibility of Biesse alloys is tested under the standard UNI EN 10993-1 “Biological evaluation of medical devices. Guidance on selection of tests”.
The biocompatibility tests were carried out in the Centro di studio dei Biomateriali, Dipartimento di Chirurgia dell'Università di Modena (Biomaterials Study Centre, Department of Surgery, University of Modena – Italy). Some sample alloys were selected as representing the respective alloys families and were tested for direct and indirect cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and allergenic behaviour. The biocompatibility of all alloys was determined for their intended use on the basis of the above sample tests and reference scientific papers in the literature.
The alloys developed by BIESSE have followed the changing needs and requirements of the dental profession over time.
